    Tour of the Old Quarter

    • Cathedral
    • Old quarter
    • Portal de Serranos
    • Carmen Quarter
    • La Lonja

The ideal starting point for the tour is Valencia Cathedral. A monument that is outstanding for its three colonnades, each in a different style: Romanesque, Gothic and Baroque. Here also we can see its bell tower, the "Miquelet", which governs the whole city. After visiting this monument we can stroll through the streets of the old quarter while heading towards Portal de Serranos, on the banks of the river. This gateway was an entry to the city when it was still walled. From here we see the course of the Turia River which, after the floods of 1957, was re-directed outside the city. Now the people of Valencia can take advantage of the space it occupied to practice sport, ride bicycles, etc. A few steps from here is the famous Carmen square, the heart of a neighbourhood of the same name. This is one of the most famous areas in the city, known for its nightlife and small shops. Turning south along Serranos street we will come to one of the most beautiful monuments in the city, the Lonja, this fascinating building was constructed in 1483 by Valencian merchants and was home to the consulate of the sea, a symbol of the economic power of the city and one of its most attractive Gothic monuments.

    River Tour

    • City of the Arts and Sciences
    • Serrano Towers
    • Music Palace
    • Museum of Fine Arts
    • Biopark

This is a tour of the futuristic Valencia. One of the most attractive areas for tourists where we can see the recent changes that have taken place in the city, placing it in the vanguard of architecture.

You can begin the tour at either end of the river, but we have decided to start at the Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias (City of the Arts and Sciences). The area was designed by Santiago Calatrava and inaugurated in 1998. It comprises different buildings, the most outstanding being the "Hemisféric" and the "Oceanogràfic", the largest aquarium in Europe.

Continue walking along the old course of the Túria River converted into a park after the river was re-directed outside the city after the 1957 floods. As you can see, the course of the river has become a place where the citizens of Valencia enjoy themselves, get together, stroll or practice sports. Half way along our walk we pass by the Serrano Towers and the beautiful Palau de la Música (Music Palace) with its acoustics praised by numerous artists. We can also make a detour to the different museums located in this area, including the modern art museum (IVAM) or the Museum of Fine Arts, both offering a large collection of paintings by such famous Spanish artists as Velázquez, El Greco, Murillo or Goya.

Finish the tour in one of the most modern open zoos in the world and the largest in Europe. The concept of a Biopark is that we enter the animal’s habitat and not the other way around as occurs in the majority of zoos. We can see lions, hippopotamuses, giraffes and elephants in their natural environments surrounded by the vegetation of their area, and without any barriers or cages.

It is also possible to take this tour by renting a bicycle at any of the numerous kiosks along the river.

    Waterfront Tour

    • Drassanes Reials
    • Port of Valencia
    • Museo de la Semana Santa Marinera
    • Paseo Marítimo
    • Arenal and Malvarrosa beaches

In this tour we will see the Mediterranean Valencia. Here we will see monuments dating back to the 15th century beside 21st century buildings.

Begin the walk at Drassanes Reials (shipyards) where boats were constructed in ancient times. This is a fascinating example of civil Gothic buildings of the Crown of Aragon.

Just a few steps away, is the Port of Valencia. This recently remodelled port was the venue for the America’s Cup and is one of the settings of the Formula 1 Grand Prix held in the city each year. It was once a symbol of the economic growth that made the city and its port the most important in the Kingdom, even more so than Barcelona. It has now been converted into an attractive leisure area where we can find numerous bars and pubs to have a relaxing drink.

Taking advantage of our visit to the port, we can go to the Museo de la Semana Santa Marinera (Easter Museum), entry is free and it will give us an idea of what life on the sea was like in bygone times.

We can even find a Rice Museum but ... if we want to enjoy a good paella we must undoubtedly go to the Paseo Marítimo (beachfront). This promenade goes along the Arenal and Malvarrosa beaches and offers numerous restaurants to enjoy Valencian cuisine, undoubtedly an experience not to be missed.

    And just outside Valencia…L’Albufera

The Albufera Nature Reserve is located about 10 km south of Valencia. The nature reserve comprises the Albufera system itself, its wetlands, and the coastal strip of pine forest that separates it from the sea (Dehesa del Saler).
Albufera is a resting area for many species of migratory birds. It has enormous ecological value as many species in danger of extinction can be found there.
From the point of view of tourism, Albufera is possibly the best place to enjoy an authentic paella valenciana. Rice lovers can find a whole range of gastronomic routes to enjoy a large variety of rice dishes.
